Common Deckbuilding Mistakes We Keep Making

April 13, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

Deckbuilders are addictive because they feel like solving a puzzle you designed yourself. But there are a few mistakes that trip up nearly everyone, and we still catch ourselves making them.

The big one is adding too many cards. A bloated deck dilutes your best draws. In Glyph Tactics we cut our starter deck nearly in half and immediately started winning more, because our key combos actually came up.

Another trap is chasing flashy rare cards that don't fit your plan. A cheap common that supports your core strategy usually beats a shiny card that sits uselessly in hand.

Finally, commit to an archetype early in a run. Trying to keep every option open leaves you with a deck that does everything poorly. Pick a direction, lean in, and adapt only when the game clearly pushes you to.
