When Touch Controls Actually Feel Good

When Touch Controls Actually Feel Good

April 26, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

We've played games where the controls made a genuinely good game unplayable, and games where clever touch design carried a mediocre one. The difference usually comes down to a few small choices.

Good games keep buttons away from where your thumbs naturally rest, so you don't fire off accidental taps. They also give generous hit boxes — precision on glass is hard, and forgiving targets feel better.

Racing games like Neon Drift Circuit taught us to appreciate options. Being able to switch between tilt and touch steering means the game meets you where you're comfortable instead of forcing one style.

Our rule of thumb: if you're still fighting the controls after twenty minutes, it's usually the game's fault, not yours. Great control design becomes invisible, and that's the whole point.
