Why We Finish Games Before Reviewing Them

Why We Finish Games Before Reviewing Them

August 28, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

It's easy to judge a game from its first hour, and plenty of reviews do exactly that. We think that's a mistake, because so many games save their best or worst for later.

Some titles open slowly and only click once systems unlock. Others start strong and fall apart into repetitive grind. You simply can't tell which is which from the tutorial.

When we sat down with Emberfall Saga, the first two hours were fine but forgettable. The part that made us love it — the party banter and the tougher fights — came much later. Reviewing early would have sold it short.

So we play on. It takes longer and sometimes it's a slog, but it's the only way to write something you can actually trust. That patience is the whole promise of this site.
